2021 was the first signal for LCD TVs with QD (Quantum Dot) technology and miniLED backlight. As is known, QD technology was the first revolutionary breakthrough for LED-backlit LCD TVs, expanding their color gamut, greater brightness and color accuracy. This advancement was achieved by dramatically improving the quality of the white color used to highlight the RGB filter. In fact, developers have created an analog of a small sun on televisions. QD technology creates white from blue (back blue LED array), red and green which are re-emitted by microparticles (their size corresponds to the wavelengths of red and green). Between the blue matrix of the backlight and the RGB filter is a film with scattered microparticles.

MiniLED backlighting was another breakthrough in the development of LCD TVs, radically increasing their contrast. Using a large number of miniature LEDs, developers have radically increased the number of independent local dimming zones to hundreds or even thousands. A sharp increase in their number, in turn, increased the overall image contrast by improving the accuracy of brightness control in different parts of the frame.

As a result, LCD TVs with these technologies have established a strong foothold in the premium segment, with QD color and OLED contrast.
At CES 2021, Samsung, TCL and LG presented their versions of the innovative miniLED backlight. Today this technology is used in Samsung Neo, LG QENG andTCL 6 series R655 and QM8string. TCL has released its version of OD-Zero (Optical Depth Zero).
However, the Chinese giant Hisense offers similar technologiesULED X-serie.LG's product range includes four 4K and two 8K QENG miniLED series. But to be honest, the Samsung Neo series is the most popular and successful.

As with the model range of previous years, the spotlight is on the flagship QN95C 4K. The specs are really impressive.
The flagship model uses a VA panel with a QD filter, the latest 4K Neural Quantum processor, additional speakers for Object Tracking Sound Pro and miniLED backlighting with twice the local zones compared to last year's QN95B. The intelligent platform runs on Tizen 7.0 OS which provides all major streaming services. In addition, the QN95C has built-in Dolby Atmos decoding, supports HDR10/HLG/HDR10+ formats and almost all game functions.
Most important features
With the exception of the S95S with a hybrid QD-OLED panel and 8K models, all new Samsung TVs will come without a One Connect cable box. This makes them a bit thicker. But the Samsung QN95C has a new slim power panel and the popular Infinity One design with a borderless screen. Therefore, despite the direct backlight of the full array, the multi-channel speaker system and the lack of One Connect Box, its thickness does not exceed 20 mm.

The QN95C comes with a new stand that is narrower than last year's. In addition, it can be wall mounted with an optional holeless bracket.

Compared to last year's model, the new solar-powered remote with buttons for direct access to Netflix, Prime Video and Disney+ is smaller and simpler.
The wireless connectivity list includes support for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Apple AirPlay 2.
Main technologies:
- The QN95C adopts "Auto HDR Remastering" algorithm with AI technology for deep learning. Analyzes and applies real-time HDR effects to SDR content in scene-by-scene mode.

Basically, this feature reproduces Standard Dynamic Range (SDR) content in HDR format. Theoretically, this function improves picture quality when playing SDR movies, TV shows, etc. and can partially solve the problem of lack of HDR content.
- 14-bit processing and improved local dimming.
According to the company, the new dimming technology offers "improved brightness and grayscale control for accurate lighting rendering and extreme detail across the screen";
- AI Sound Remastering option improves speech intelligibility and provides ideal volume levels for each audio component.
- Q Symphony 3.0 synchronizes the TV speakers with the Samsung soundbar for enhanced Dolby Atmos sound;
- Anti-glare screen and Ultra Viewing Angle technology to expand viewing angles.

QN95C clarity and sound
In comparison, the first Neo QN90A with a contrast of 27,000:1 and a brightness of 1,700 nits became the most contrasted and brightest LCD TV in 2021.
For SDR content, the peak brightness of the QN95C exceeds 320 nits on a 100% white window, which is typical. For an HDR signal, the TV delivers more than 800 nits at 100% white and 1380 nits at 18% window. That's slightly less than the 1700 nits of the QN90B, but very bright compared to other competitors. Brightness in the 10 percent window increases to 1570 nits in Cinema mode and nearly 1700 nits in Filmmaker mode.
The contrast ratio is similar to last year's series. Both TVs display deep black levels perfectly. But compared to the previous QN90B, the new QN95C shows a significant improvement in motion and image processing, reproducing even complex scenes without juddering and blooming.
Audio
Music lovers may find the sound quality of the built-in speakers subpar, but most can skip the soundbar. The TV separates the stereo well, neatly reproduces mid and high tones and even offers acceptable low tones. The total power of the speakers reaches 70W (4 x 5W + 2 x 15W).
The integrated Dolby Atmos decoding works very efficiently and significantly expands the sound image with Atmos content. The new speakers seamlessly reproduce overhead effects in soundtracks. Object Tracking Sound+ and Q-Symphony 3.0 complete the audio functionality.
In particular, the 4.2.2 channel speaker array with Object Tracking Sound+ tweeters improves the spatial accuracy of sound effects. Q-Symphony 3.0 more effectively synchronizes the built-in speakers with external Samsung soundbars.

Naturally, the flagship model supports Dolby Atmos / Dolby Digital Plus / Dolby Digital (AC-3) / Dolby AC-4 formats.
Control via Amazon Alexa or Samsung Bixby is done using a long-range microphone.
HDR performance
The deep black VA panels and the high shadow detail with miniLED backlight ensure very sharp contrast images.
The 4K Neural Quantum Processor easily upscales lower resolution content to 4K. Even without frame interpolation for image clarity, motion control ensures smooth playback of normal content without jitters and artifacts. However, it is useful for broadcasting sports.
According to the moving dot test sample, the 65-inch screen has 48 horizontal zones and 28 vertical zones for a total of 1,344 independently dimmable zones, twice the specifications of last year's QN95B.
14-bit HDR mapping adds detail to dark and bright scenes, and Quantum Matrix technology with Shape Adaptive Light Control controls the mini-LEDs more precisely.

Physically, it redirects light from darker areas of the image to brighter areas, increasing the dynamic range. Finally, Neo Quantum HDR+ and Auto HDR Remastering improve HDR performance for all content.
All in all, the flagship of the South Korean giant has one of the highest HDR performance in the industry. This is due to a combination of an effective light-reflecting filter, wider viewing angles and a greater number of independent local dimming zones. These factors provide deep blacks and bright highlights without blooming in HDR mode.
The peak brightness of the QN95C exceeds 1700 nits (cd/m2) at 10% window in Filmmaker mode and reaches an unprecedented 720 nits at 100% full-field sampling. Better still, the TV can accurately display HDR content ≤ 1000 nits without tone mapping.
The color gamut is also impressive, offering 95% coverage for DCI-P3 and 71% in the BT.2020 color space while maintaining very accurate color tracking.
Samsung still does not support Dolby Vision HDR. It is known that the company prefers the HDR10+ format. It may be less widespread, but it has some unique benefits.
Smart options
From 2023, some Samsung TVs will come with an integrated SmartThings Zigbee & Matter Thread One chip module. It offers TV compatibility with smart home devices using Matter, Zigbee and Z-Wave protocols. In effect, it turns TVs into straightforward smart home hubs.
New features of Tizen 7.0:
– Chat Together – group for live chat while viewing the same content;
– ConnectTime – a larger platform for video calls on TV;
- 3D map view - Home and all SmartThings devices at a glance.
These options even make it easy to activate a "watch" session in live chat.
Other:
- A special section provides access to connected game consoles and various game applications;
– Netflix, Prime Video, Apple TV+, Disney+, Now TV, Rakuten, YouTube itd.
- The SmartThings app simplifies setup;
– Compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, integrated Bixby, access to Siri via Apple's AirPlay 2;
- Built-in slim USB camera.

But the QN95C can also use the phone's camera. It is compatible with Google Meet, Workout and Samsung Health apps and supports dual-screen multi-view mode.
– Smart Calibration Pro – Calibration with an iOS/Android smartphone via the Smart Calibration app.
It uses test samples whose photos are transferred from the camera to the service. Basic mode lasts just 30 seconds and optimizes grayscale and color gamut. Advanced mode takes longer, but offers better accuracy. However, the basic setting already gives DeltaEs ≤ 3, which corresponds to a good level. For reference, the QN95C has an Eco mode by default with excess blue in white and slightly oversaturated colors. But Filmmaker mode offers grayscale with excellent DeltaE (error) ≤ 2.
To play
The Samsung QN95C rightfully claims to be among the best gaming TVs, offering:
– Freesync Premium i Motion Xcelerator Turbo Pro 144 Hz;
- Extremely responsive gameplay.
Unlike most rivals, the QN95C has a maximum refresh rate of 144Hz, making this panel very responsive. In addition, Game Mode reduces input lag to 5.8 ms for a 4K@120 signal and less than 5 ms for a 4K@144 signal. But if it's not enabled, the input delay increases to 73 ms;
- HDMI inputs supporting next-gen console features including 4K@120Hz, VRR and ALLM;
- Extensive game bar (super ultra-wide view mode, "zoomed" map on tablet or smartphone, virtual target mode, etc.).

Provides quick access to game settings.
Unfortunately, the Samsung QN95C does not support Nvidia G-Syn. As known, this adaptive sync technology offers a variable refresh rate for uninterrupted gaming. In fact, G-Sync doubles the number of hertz when they fall below the minimum. However, the Neo series uses FreeSync Premium Pro, which solves a similar problem. But to be fair, this technology only reduces screen tearing and stuttering, unlike G-Sync which prevents it. However, the unprecedentedly low input latency makes this difference irrelevant.
Diploma

In a nutshell, LED TVs give you good contrast and energy efficiency, QLED TVs have higher resolutions, brighter and vibrant colours, while Neo QLED is the latest landmark precision TV technology by Samsung.
Is Samsung QLED worth the extra money? ›With better performance in the categories that most people will notice while watching TV shows and movies, it's still the best picture quality you can buy. QLED comes out on top on paper, delivering a higher brightness, longer life span, lower price tags, and no risk of burn-in.
What is the difference between Samsung Neo Qled and mini LED? ›What's the difference between mini-LED and QLED? Mini-LEDs are much smaller in size compared to standard LEDs, which allow many more to fit into the LCD matrix. QLEDs, or Quantum Dot LEDs, are even smaller nano-particles that produce their range of color when lit up by backlight.
What is the difference between OLED and Neo Qled? ›Where Neo QLED and most other panel types rely on one layer to provide the colors for the individual pixels and another layer to light up those colored pixels, OLED panel pixels provide their own light. You can think of an OLED TV as an array of millions of microscopic, color-changing LEDs.
Is 120Hz refresh rate noticeable? ›In theory, a higher refresh rate should equal a better quality picture because it cuts down on blurriness. A 120Hz display decreases the appearance of "film judder" or blurring that might be noticeable to some on a 60Hz screen. Improvements beyond a 120Hz refresh rate are unnoticeable.
Is LG QLED better than Samsung? ›If you prefer a brighter picture, Samsung's QLED sets are the way to go. However, if you want a better contrast ratio (where blacks look black and not gray) and a wider viewing angle, we recommend an OLED TV from LG.
Which is better 4K or QLED or OLED? ›Resolution, color, video processing and other image quality factors are basically the same. Most QLED and OLED have the same resolution and 4K, and both can achieve 8K resolution too. Neither technology has major inherent advantages in color or video processing, although QD-OLED could deliver improved color.
Which is better LG OLED or Samsung QLED? ›QLED TVs can get much brighter than OLED TVs because of the way OLED panels work compared to LED-LCD TVs. Alternatively, OLED TVs achieve perfect black levels and contrast, while QLED TVs often suffer from some light blooming in high-contrast scenes. OLED TVs have better off-angle viewing, too.
What are the negatives on QLED TV? ›Drawbacks or disadvantages of QLED
Instead QLEDs use backlight unit for illumination. ➨QLED based TVs suffer from "light bleed" effect. This effect is visible in certain scenes. It results into slight haze around bright objects which blurs lines which should be usually sharp.
What TV is better than QLED? ›
In terms of picture quality, OLED TVs are generally considered to be the better option due to their perfect blacks and infinite contrast. However, QLED TVs can still produce very high levels of brightness and colour accuracy, and they are often more affordable than OLED TVs.
Which is better 4K LED or QLED? ›The Quantum Dots that make up the QLED panels are capable of emitting not only brighter and sharper images but darker ones for low-lit scenes. QLED displays outperform both LCD and LED displays in terms of color reproduction and, naturally, the images offer a superior contrast ratio.
Will I notice the difference between QLED and Neo QLED? ›One final thing that marks a difference between Neo QLED and QLED TVs is the presence of the One Connect box. Rather than incorporating the connections in the back of the TV, they're whisked away to a separate box that also features the TV's processor, with the video/audio signals fed into the TV via a cable.
Which is best LED and QLED? ›QLED are a more balanced option between LED and OLED TVs. Their picture quality is better than traditional LED TVs and they also don't have screen burning issues like older OLED TVs.
What is the difference between a crystal UHD and QLED? ›QLED models can achieve 100% color volume which means that color saturation is maintained regardless of the brightness level of the picture. Crystal UHD TVs provide a duller picture with colors that are not as vivid and have a narrower viewing angle.
Which is better LG or Samsung TV? ›Samsung TVs usually get a fair bit brighter and have better contrast, while LG TVs generally have much wider viewing angles and better smart features. While LG has more OLEDs in its lineup, Samsung has released its own OLED TVs known as QD-OLED, which produce brighter colors than LG's OLEDs.
Which is better LED or OLED or QLED? ›The main difference OLED TVs have over LED and QLED TVs is how they produce light. Instead of requiring a backlight, the individual pixels on OLED TVs emit light themselves. Removing the LED backlight makes OLED TVs thinner and much more power-efficient than LED and QLED TVs.
What is better than OLED? ›However, QLED TVs can still produce very high levels of brightness and colour accuracy, and they are often more affordable than OLED TVs. In addition, QLED TVs with the local dimming feature have an edge over OLEDs. This feature divides the screen into small zones, each with its own LED backlight.
Can the normal person tell the difference between 60Hz and 120Hz? ›The higher the number, the smoother the screen will appear to the human eye. This means that a 120Hz display – which updates itself 120 times a second – will look noticeable slicker and more natural than your average 60Hz screen which only updates itself 60 times a second.
Can the human eye tell the difference between 60Hz and 120Hz? ›This makes the images appear jumpy or flicker. Humans can easily tell the difference between 60hz and 120hz/144hz monitors. We need higher refresh rates to have smooth moving objects on screen.
Is motion rate 120 the same as 120Hz? ›
What's confusing the most is when TV manufacturers advertise such features as 'Motion Rate 120', which may trick people into thinking that the TV has a native 120Hz refresh rate. Instead, it's a 60Hz TV that can simulate 120 FPS (Frames Per Second). The reason behind all this is simple — marketing.
What are the disadvantages of a Samsung Smart TV? ›...

Do I need 144 Hz refresh rate? ›
Although high-refresh-rate monitors are becoming more popular and more affordable, 144Hz monitors are still good for entry-level gamers whose graphics cards can't reach those high frame rates. More 4k @ 144Hz monitors are coming out, which is great if you want to play high-resolution games instead.
What is the difference between QN90A and qn90? ›The Samsung QN90A QLED is a slight improvement over its predecessor, the Samsung Q90/Q90T QLED, mainly because it uses Mini LED as its backlighting. This allows more control over its local dimming feature, causing deeper blacks and higher brightness.
Is QN90A worth it? ›Yes—especially if you want amazing HDR
The QN90A's mini-LED backlight gives it a huge advantage compared to past LED/LCD TVs: contrast. Getting inky black levels alongside searing brightness is this TV's claim to fame, and it really dishes things out where impressive HDR is concerned.
Higher refresh rates are better. 60 Hz is the bare minimum, but 144 Hz will give a boost to performance. 240 Hz is nice but is unlikely to give as large a jump in performance as the 60-144 Hz jump. You need graphics powerful enough to run games at these frame rates to benefit fully from a fast monitor.
Is 75 Hz refresh rate enough? ›Yes. For the vast majority of gamers, 75Hz will be more than enough to play practically any game that you'd want to play. While certain genres can certainly benefit from an even higher frame rate, 75Hz is still a significant advantage over 60Hz, and will offer an even better gaming experience.
What refresh rate should I get? ›Ideally, you'll want the game's frame rate to match the monitor's refresh rate 1:1 for an ideal experience. For example, your system should be outputting 144 FPS to get the full benefit of a 144Hz monitor.
How do I get 120Hz refresh rate HDMI? ›- Select Settings → Watching TV → External inputs → HDMI signal format.
- Select the input that the device is connected to (either HDMI 3 or HDMI 4), and then change the setting to Enhanced format. Note: Do not choose Enhanced format (Dolby Vision).
These displays can handle up to 165 frames per second and the result is much smoother gameplay. Upgrading from 60Hz to 120Hz, 144Hz or 165Hz is a very noticeable difference. It is something that you just have to see for yourself, and you can't do that by viewing a video of it on a 60Hz display.
Do I really need 240Hz refresh rate? ›We recommend 240Hz in 1080p and 1440p, and for both DisplayPort 1.4 is more than enough. That connection comes standard on all good gaming monitors now. We recommend those resolutions because getting games to run in 240Hz in them isn't that hard with modern graphics cards.
Is resolution or refresh rate more important? ›Games That Are Better With Higher Resolution vs Refresh Rate
Higher resolutions give you sharper images, so a high-resolution monitor makes playing visually detailed games much more enjoyable.
Do you really notice the difference between 60Hz and 144Hz? ›
144Hz is a very popular refresh rate that manufacturers continue to use, even when much faster panels are available. It provides a significantly smoother and responsive experience over 60Hz, whether for gaming or general desktop use.
